Beginning in January we will have a Six-week support group for those grieving the loss of a child. A time to share with and learn from others will be provided.

Journaling Through Grief: The Workshop
 
Journaling can be a healing exercise for the grieving.  Join Joan T. Broussard, Certified Spiritual Director, for this informative and experiential workshop.
 
This group will also have a follow up Journaling Group that will meet Tuesday, February 14, 28, and March 6, 13, 20, and 27th from 10:00am-11:30am.  This six week support group will use the journaling exercises to explore our unique grief experience.  Bring your own journal, or one will be provided to you.  Pre-registration is required please call 232.1234

Writing Your Life Story
 
Classes will be held will be held on the third Monday of the month in our Conference Center and will continue until July, 2012. A workbook is provided which is divided into sections that signify decades of your life.
 
Each section contains questions to prompt memories from your life. We encourage everyone to attend and bring pictures, friends and memorabilia to share with the class. If you have questions or would like to register please call Ann Wallace at 232-1234.

Five Wishes Workshop
 
There are many things in life that are out of our hands. The Five Wishes document gives you a way to control something very important-how you are treated if you get seriously ill.  It is an easy-to-complete form that lets you say exactly what you want.  Once it is filled out and properly signed it is valid under the laws of most states.  If you have any questions or would like to register please call Rae Gremillion at 232-1234

Hospice of Acadiana Holds Annual Banquet

 

On Monday November 15th Hospice of Acadiana held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. This event is held every November in honor of National Hospice Month and for the 350+ Hospice of Acadiana volunteers and over 20 volunteer physicians who donate their time and talents to Acadiana’s only non-profit hospice.  The highlight of this event is the presentation of four awards. The three awards are given to our dedicated volunteers and the fourth to the staff member of the year.

 

The Jerome Romagosa, MD award is given in honor the first Medical Director of Hospice of Acadiana.  This year’s recipient is Dr. Corbett LeBouef a hospice volunteer physician for over 6 years and is from Abbeville, LA. Prior to his retirement, Dr. LeBouef was a family practice physician.

 

The Leslie Lancon, RN award is given to the clinical or administrative employee’s dedicated service to HOA. This year’s recipient is Carla Pommier.  Carla is the Account Receivable Billing supervisor.

 

The Carolyn Patin Award is given to Hospice of Acadiana Volunteers, one male and one female in memory of Carolyn Patin one of our long time volunteers who passed away several years ago. This year’s male volunteer of the year is Norman Foret, a HOA volunteer for over 9 years and the female volunteer of the year is Catherine Janes a dedicated hospice volunteer for over 9 years.

 

The Jewell Lowe award is given to the professional volunteer in member of Jewell Lowe one of the founders of Hospice of Acadiana.  This year’s recipient is William H. "Billy” Mouton, Hospice of Acadiana’s Board Chairman.

 

Hospice of Acadiana volunteers this past year donated over 3,428 hours of their time to the service of Hospice of Acadiana, their patients and their families.

Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. Celebrates Hospice Month

On November 16, 2009, Hospice of Acadiana honored its 350 volunteers and celebrated hospice month at the Petroleum Club in Lafayette. We happily honored the efforts of our employees volunteers and how their valiant efforts help us to aid the community of Acadiana.

George Olivier, volunteer, won the Jewell Lowe award for service.

Mary Lahey, LPC, LMFT, staff, won the Leslie Lancon award.

Mollie Vincent, volunteer, won the Carolyn Patin award for service.

Harold Chastant, MD, won the Jerome Romagosa award for service.

All of the award winners were voted on by staff members of Hospice of Acadiana, Inc.

Additionally an award of a crystal bowl emblazoned with the logo of Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. was presented to Nelson Waguespack, outgoing CEO, by the staff of Hospice of Acadiana.


Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. honored as Point of Light Organization

Friday, October 16, 2009, CEO Nelson Waguespack, Jr. represented Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. as an agency recognized as a Point of Light organization for 20 years at a Presidential Forum on Service at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. Present for the celebration of service was former President George H.W. Bush, former President George W. Bush and current President Barack Obama.

The event was to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the vision of a thousand "Points of Light” invoked by President George H. W. Bush in 1989. Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. was recognized and celebrated as the 333rd Point of Light agency for its commitment to serving the dying patients in Acadiana and ensuring the support for families, loved ones and community members by dedicated and professional staff including over 350 volunteers.


Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. was voted as the Non Profit of the Year for the 4rd year in a row by the Times of Acadiana 2011 Readers Poll.

The staff and volunteers of Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. are truly honored to walk with the patients of Hospice of Acadiana and their families on this journey.
